About

The origin of the Stones River Crafts Association is rooted in the Stones River Crafts Fair which was first held for the nation’s Bicentennial Celebration and continued for several years. In the continued growth and change that has affected our community, craft professionals are often overlooked. The Art Studio Tour was established in 1994 to increase the public’s awareness of and education about crafts. More recently, the Boro Art Crawl has created a celebration environment around the Murfreesboro public square with its nights dedicated to art and business cooperation.

The Stones River Crafts Association encourages community artists as well as community supporters to join together to develop, encourage, promote, and preserve fine crafts in the Rutherford County / Stones River region.

The organization was established with several objectives in mind.

First was to continue and to build upon the success of the Craft Artist Studio Tour (aka Art Studio Tour) which occurs every fall the weekend before Thanksgiving. This event features studio hosts who open their studios for tours, demonstrations, sales, and participation of guest artists.

Another goal is to evolve events such as a fine arts and fine crafts fair, art crawl, festivals, performance art, and additional studio tours. This will draw attention to more of our communities’ creatives, elevate standards of design and craftsmanship, and encourage individual expression among our area's large and diverse crafts community.

With the support of a pool of craft artists, the Stones River Crafts Association hopes to not only involve and encourage youth in the creativity, production and display of fine crafts, but also present a group of artists available for commissions, forums, workshops, and presentations.
